People and programs 02/15/2019 We all know the best parties always end up in the kitchen. That’s why we were thrilled to be named a charitable partner of Canada’s Great Kitchen Party, a social enterprise all about creating events that elevate and celebrate Canadian culture. Starting in fall 2018, the party travelled to 12 cities, from St. John’s to Victoria, stirring up culinary competition among the country’s top chefs along the way. "We saw how chefs across this country are inspired by the way Community Food Centres Canada really steps in and takes action at the community level, where help can be most effective,” said Karen Blair, Canada’s Great Kitchen Party co-founder. “We realized it was a great fit with our own focus of impacting the food space in Canada, and specifically, youth across Canada, raising the bar where Canadian food culture is concerned, and bringing people together.” And raise the bar they have. In January 2019, thanks to support from Canada’s Great Kitchen Party, we launched the Kitchen Mentors program at five Community Food Centres and six Good Food Organizations across the country. In the Kitchen Mentors program, children in food education programs learn cooking skills and techniques from some of Canada’s leading professional chefs. We’re so glad Canada’s Great Kitchen Party understands the importance of empowering kids to choose and prepare healthy food early in life. Not only does it help kids build confidence in the kitchen, it sets them up for a lifetime of health and wellbeing. In addition to their generous support of Kitchen Mentors, Canada’s Great Kitchen Party is also supporting other programs that bring people together to grow, cook, share, and advocate for good food at NorWest Co-op CFC in Winnipeg, Dartmouth North CFC in Dartmouth, NS, and Regent Park CFC in Toronto. Thanks, Canada’s Great Kitchen Party -- we think you throw the best ones! Do you have an idea for an event or promotion to raise money for our work? We’re all ears! Need some inspiration? Check out our suggestions for hosting a third-party event.
