People and programs 05/15/2019

A strong believer in the power of food to change lives, Maria Cristina Notstro first heard about Community Food Centres Canada through Chefs for Change, a Toronto dinner series that helps raise funds in support of the right to healthy food for all.

It wasn’t long after that she joined our growing circle of philanthropists by making a generous donation to mark a major milestone in her life.

“I’d been familiar with CFCC’s programs for a while - my partner and I had been supporters for about a year. But the day I got my Canadian Citizenship, I thought making a donation to CFCC was the perfect way to give back to the community.”

Maria Cristina’s passion for good food goes well beyond her donation. When she’s not out supporting her community, she’s pursuing her academic interests in diabetes at the McEwen Stem Cell Institute in Toronto.

But it’s her belief that everyone has the right to healthy food that shines through. When asked why she chose to support CFCC, she said: “I support CFCC out of a shared belief that everyone should be able to access good food. When I donate, I know I’m doing more than helping put healthy meals on the table – I’m also supporting communities, and raising awareness about poverty and food insecurity in Canada.”

We are absolutely grateful for Maria Cristina’s support of spaces and programs that strengthen communities, build heath, and create a sense of belonging across Canada.
