Kyle Byron believes good food should taste delicious and make us feel good too. Emma Shulist believes good food means the opportunity for someone to make a conscious choice. What do these two have in common? They're both monthly donors for Community Food Centres Canada, and they both believe healthy food should be accesible to all.

In this piece, we're profiling these two all-star monthly donors and thanking them for helping us build and support vibrant, food-focused places that bring people together to grow, cook, share, and advocate for good food for all. Monthly donors are critical to to helping us continue funding programs that increase food access, build food skills, and providing engagement and education opportunities in low-income communities. Meet Emma Shulist, Development Associate

1. What does good food mean to you?
Good food is subjective: it can mean health, joy, love, nutrition, trust, heritage, choice. Good food can also refer to the experience and what it can do for you and others — spending time around the table with those who love learning from and connecting to others, learning about vast cultural and religious practices, being adventurous, vulnerable, hedonistic, etc. 

I think the phrase 'good food' at its core means the opportunity for someone to make a conscious choice, providing the opportunity for intentional choices for yourself, and I believe CFCC provides the opportunity for someone to choose for themselves instead of someone choosing or providing for them.
2. Why did you decide to become a monthly donor to Community Food Centres Canada?
I had been involved in my own food justice work when I discovered Community Food Centres Canada. The mandate spoke to me, as did the stories of dignity, health and inspiration from Community Food Centre recipients. 
I've always wanted to give back in some capacity to a mission that I believe does great work, and in doing so, I decided to become a monthly donor for CFCC. I know being a monthly donor ensures that charities are able to have a reliable source of undesignated funds that is able to go to their highest priorities. Monthly, reliable donations to CFCC's highest priorities are essential knowing that all of their programming and talented staff are integral to the amazing work they do. I'm proud to say I'm a monthly donor to Community Food Centres Canada because I truly believe what they are doing is changing lives. 
Meet Kyle Byron, Nutritionist and Trainer

1. What does good food mean to you?
To me, good food means many things. It has to be grown naturally, like wild-caught fish or organic produce. The more processed a food is, the more it turns me off. I wish more people knew how to grow and cook their own food!
Good food also tastes good. It's nutritious which makes us feel good and live long and vibrant lives.

2. Why did you decide to become a monthly donor for Community Food Centres Canada?
I don't have a lot to give so I choose my charities carefully. If you give a person a free meal, that's great, but it doesn't fix the problems we have in this country. If a person learns to cook, eat right, and advocate, then they are much more likely to be successful and happy. Then, they can pass on what they learned and help others.

CFCC is a teaching and social justice organization the revolves around health. What's more important than that?
