Typhenn's story

I like knowing that I’m contributing every month to a local organization that I respect and admire.

Typhenn
My partner and I are very interested in community gardening and nutrition. My partner also works in urban food security, so he brings that knowledge to the table. Needless to say, food is something that’s on our minds -- a lot!

When The Alex Community Food Centre opened in Forest Lawn, I was one of the first people there. I came to the open house to learn more about the project and how we could get involved. I’d heard about the Community Food Centre model before and admired their approach to providing access to food to low-income families -- in a dignified way.

My partner and I now contribute to the Community Food Centre in a couple of ways. My partner volunteers in programs. My job is busy these days, which means I can’t make a regular commitment to volunteering, so I’ve become a monthly donor. It means a lot to me to know that I’m contributing every month to a local organization that I respect and admire -- and to know those funds are helping build a community of respect, dignity, and empowerment around food.
