What Does “Good Food” Mean? Making Sense of Dietary Science
We've perhaps never been as conscious of “eating well” as a society as we are today. There's a growing awareness around common diet-related diseases and the influence of the food industry on our diets. Yet there's still a lot of confusion about how to wade through the many different claims made by “evidence-based” diet advice.
In this webinar, researcher and broadcaster Dr. Jennifer Brady will discuss the ways that class and race inform our notion of good food, and how defining health itself is not a straightforward scientific question, but a construct shaped in ways that sometimes create bias and harm. Dr. Trace Mackay, one of the designers of CFCC’s FoodFit nutrition and exercise program, will explore how these critiques can be addressed in community-based programs to create an empowering approach to healthier eating. The webinar is moderated by Kathryn Scharf, Chief Operating Officer of Community Food Centres Canada.
