At Community Food Centres Canada, we’re fortunate to partner with a community of generous chefs and restaurants who are passionate about good food and its power to bring people together.
Drake Hotel Properties has been a dedicated supporter of CFCC since our early days. Their chefs and restaurants have given their time and talents to cook incredible food, build awareness of our work, and raise money to help power the Community Food Centre movement.
“I love how Community Food Centres Canada brings people together in the spirit of dignity, community and health around food,” says Ted Corrado, Corporate Executive Chef at the Drake Hotel. “Having worked with CFCC for years, I’ve been fortunate enough to see firsthand the welcoming spaces they have helped create to promote dignity through food advocacy.”
The Drake Hotel was on the roster for the first ever Restaurants for Change event in 2014, and has taken part every year since, donating proceeds from dinner service from all of their restaurants, including Drake One Fifty, Drake Devonshire Inn, and Drake Commissary, on the third Wednesday in October. Each fall, Ted Corrado takes on the role of Chef Ambassador, speaking out in the community about Restaurants for Change and how it helps us support programs and places that build health, belonging, and social justice through food.
Ted and his colleague Alexandra Feswick, Chef at the Drake Devonshire Inn, also volunteer their time and culinary talents every winter during Chefs for Change, an annual dinner series and fundraiser that brings the country’s best chefs together to collaborate on five special feasts in support of CFCC.
It’s clear that Drake Hotel Properties believes in using food as a tool to build community. In 2017, they started their own event to support us—the Barn Burner Hockey Game and Dinner—where chefs from Toronto and Montreal take to the ice for a friendly exhibition hockey game in Prince Edward County, then cook up a feast at the Drake Devonshire Inn. It was such a hit, they turned into an annual fundraiser, hosting a successful second event in January.
Thanks to Ted, Alexandra, and the rest of the Drake team, we’re ensuring more Canadians have opportunities to come together, eat really good food, and feel part of a community every day.
