Community garden programs have a big potential to improve participant’s mental health. There is an impressive body of evidence that shows growing plants, spending time with others and being outside can have a hugely positive effect on people’s mental health. Here we break down some of the research on the topic so you can get your hands dirty and improve people’s lives.

Some of those improvements include a stronger network of friends, creating a sense of pride and motivation,and reduced stress. Additional benefits can come form from physical activity,  improved nutrition and minimizing fear of their surroundings.
