Latest updates 11/06/2018 This fall, we're thrilled to welcome 49 new organizations from across North America to our diverse and growing international network of Good Food Organizations (GFOs), now more than 150 members strong. Among them are health centres, food banks, teaching farms, and anti-poverty groups committed to offering impactful community food programs based in principles of health, empowerment, and respect. What it means to be a Good Food Organization Our new roster of GFOs will have opportunities to epand on their expertise and networks in order to better serve their communities—developing new partnerships with other food organizations, sharing ideas for innovative programming, and learning new strategies to bring a deeper social justice and equity lens to their work. Meet a few of our new members Looking eastward, The School Lunch Association (SLA) is our first GFO from Newfoundland. They’re keen to share their hard-earned knowledge working in Newfoundland and Labrador since 1989. The SLA supports parents who can’t afford nutritious snacks and lunches for their children, preparing approximately 5,000 healthy meals for more than 13,000 students in 34 Newfoundland schools daily. South of the border, we’re welcoming several organizations ready to evolve from the traditional charitable food model and provide much more to their communities. Unity House in Troy, New York works with people living in poverty, adults living with mental illness or HIV/AIDS, victims of domestic violence, and children with developmental delays. They’re looking to provide more nutrient-dense food in a nutrient-weak food environment, and, ultimately, they want to “develop their mission to feed people well and to use food’s capacity for social change to its fullest extent.” Welcome to our 49 new Good Food Organizations Blackfalds Food Bank Society - Blackfalds, AB Blaine County Hunger Coalition - Bellevue, ID, USA Caldwell Family Centre - Ottawa, ON Catholic Charities of Steuben - Bath, NY, USA Chigamik Community Health Centre - Midland, ON Christ Church Cathedral - Vancouver, BC Community Food Connections Association - Medicine Hat, AB Community Health Centres of Northumberland - Port Hope, ON Community Kitchen Program of Calgary - Calgary, AB Community Living Association, Lanark County - Carleton Place, ON Community Support Centre Haldimand Norfolk - Caledonia, ON Eden Food for Change - Mississauga, ON Egale Canada Human Rights Trust - Toronto, ON Elmwood Community Resource Centre and Area - Winnipeg, MB Family Services of Greater Vancouver - Vancouver, BC Food To Share - Cherry Valley, ON Foodshare - Bloomfield, CT, USA Good Neighbours - Scarborough, ON Greenest City Environmental Organization - Toronto, ON Growing Chefs Society - Vancouver, BC Halton Food for Thought - Burlington, ON Harvest Algoma - Sault Ste Marie, ON Horizon Health Network - Oromocto, NB Langs Farm Village Association - Cambridge, ON M.I.N.D.
